Hurrah! I’ve gotten my first look at the cover for my YA novel, While He Was Away. Thank you, Sourcebooks! Thank you, Sourcebooks Teen Fire!
I wanted to share the cover of While He Was Away with you. It seemed right that I do so on Veteran’s Day, given the fact that writing this book took my on a journey I never expected, one that involved learning about the war in Iraq and World War II, and also learning about what it might mean to care deeply for someone who’s in the military.
Here’s what I like most about the cover: that red earth (it makes me long for Oklahoma, where the novel is set), the sky-scape colors, the horizon line in general, that bike (longing for a ride in the country), and the general feeling of love and longing.
You can’t judge a book by it’s cover, but . . .
how does a good cover draw you into a book?
